On 20 October at 2pm at the Holywell Music Room on Oxford, Johnny Herford (baritone), Stuart Jackson (tenor) and William Vann (piano) present a concert focussing on A.E Housman's A Shrophire Lad with music by Lennox Berkley, Butterworth, Somervell, Gurney and Ireland. The event is part of Oxford Lieder, a festival which runs from 12 October to 27 October and which is well worth exploring.
Other delights include Sandrine Piau and Roger Vignoles in French song, Spanish songs for voice and guitar, Hugo Wolf's Spanisches Liederbuch performed complete, Florian Boesch and Malcolm Martineau in Die Schöne Müllerin, Sophie Daneman and Christopher Purves in songs and duets by Britten, Purcell and Schumann, Robert Murray in Janacek's The Diary of One who Disappeared, Lucy Crowe in a recital entitled Songs of London, John Mark Ainsley and Iain Burnside in a programme of songs and poems Talking to Hardy based around Finzi's A Young Man's Exhortation, Kitty Whately performing Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben, Sarah Connolly in Brahms songs with viola plus songs arranged for viola and piano, Alice Coote in Hahn, Poulenc and Faure,
All in all quite a cornucopia of delights. More details from the Oxford Lieder Festival website
