Buxton Festival 2012
The dates for next year's Buxton Festival (the 34th) have come out. The double bill of Gounod's La Colombe and Saint-Saens' La Princesse Jaune opens the festival on 5 July 2013, with further performances on 8, 11, 14 (Matinee), 20 July. The other festival production is Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera which opens on 6 July, with further performances on 9, 12, 18 and 21 (Matinee). The two matinee performances mean that those wishing to travel up to Buxton for the day can see both festival productions.

Visiting productions include Opera Theatre Company with Monteverdi's Orfeo on 10 and 13 July, Mahoganny Opera with Britten's Church Parables (spread over two days, 14 and 15 July). Music Theatre Wales brings Maxwell Davies' Eight Songs for a Mad King paired with The Deadly Flower by contemporary Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino on 16 July and the Grange Park Opera Rising Stars visit with Messager's Fortunio on 17 and 18 July. There is a gala concert with Claire Rutter, Stephen Gadd, Stephen Barlow and the Northern Sinfonia on 7 July.

The literary series will include in the list of speakers Roy Hattersely, Matthew Paris, the Duke of Devonshire, Antonia Fraser, Ann Widdicome, Jane Ridley, Paddy Ashdown, Jeremy Bowen, William Dalrymple, Artemis Cooper and AN Wilson. Further information from the Buxton Festival website.
