The English Chamber Orchestra's concert tonight (9 October 2013) at the Cadogan Hall launches Cadogan Hall's new Chamber Orchestra series. The series includes performances from the ECO, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, L'Orchestra du Monde, London Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Swan and La Chambre Philharmonique in a series of 18 concerts. Conductor include Joshua Bell, Christopher Warren Green, Leif Ove Andsnes, ndrew Litton, Sir Roger Norrington, David Page and Emmanuel Krevine. Repertoire varies from Bach and Vivialdi, through Mendelssohn and Berlioz to Arvo Part, Schoenberg and David Matthews.
At tonight's concert the ECO is conducted by Alissa Firsova, who is also the soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23. There are always excellent chamber music performances and student recitals that don't cost an arm and a leg. The staff here is actually competent and friendly, unlike other places with their pretentious ushers.
