Wimbledon Music Festival

This year's Wimbledon Music Festival opens on 9 November 2013 and runs until Sunday 24 November. A theme running through the festival is chamber music with performers such as the Brodsky Quartet, clarinettist Michael Collins, violist Rivka Golani, pianist Angela Hewitt, Shaham-Erez-Wallfisch Piano Trio, Quatuor Mosaiques (the Austrian quartet playing on period instrument), Calefax Reed Quintet (the Dutch wind quintet), organist Jennifer Bate and trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins. The Gesualdo Consort will be celebrating Gesualdo's influence in the 20th century, and Sir John Tomlinson brings his programme based on the Michelangelo sonnets.

The festival opens on 9 November with Academy Choir and Baroque Players in an all Bach concert including the Actus Tragicus, Komm Jesu Komm and the Magnificat. And there is more Bach at the end of festival when Florilegium perform all the Brandenburg Concertos in two concerts on 23 November.

The Brodsky Quartet and Michael Collins are performing Brahms Clarinet Quintet, plus music by Hugo Woolf, Wagner and Verdi (10/11). Violist Rivka Golani accompanied by Christopher Hampton performs Schubert, Schumann, Britten and Brahms (12/11), Angela Hewitt pairs Bach with Beethoven (14/11), the Shaham/Erez/Wallfisch Piano Trio perform Beethoven's Archduke Trio plus music by Haydn and Ravel (16/11), the Quator Mosaiques perform quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven (18/11), the Calefax Reed Quintet mix Rameau and Bach with Ravel and Gershwin (20/11), organist Jennifer Bate is joined by trumpeter Crispian Steele Perkins for a programme which moves from the baroque to the present day. In what promises to be a very special evening, Sir John Tomlinson, accompanied by David Owen Norris is performing Britten's Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo, Hugo Wolf's Drei Gedichte von Michelangelo and Shostakovich's Suite on verses of Michelangelo Buonarroti, Op.145 (17/11)

Gerald Page and the Gesualdo Consort's Murder and Madrigals programme puts Gesualdo alongside composers he inspired including Warlock, Maxwell-Davies and Stravinsky (11//1)

Jessica Duchen's play Sins of the Fathers which examines the relationship between Wagner, his wife Cosima and her father, Liszt. IN a rehearse reading with extracts of the composers' music, Wagner will be played by Henry Goodman.(24/11)
