The City of London Choir is joining forces with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a series of concerts at the Cadogan Hall combining Haydn's great series of late masses with Mozart's late piano concertos. Conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton, the first concert in the series on Monday 2 November 2015 combines Haydn's Missa in Augustiis (Nelson Mass) with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 with pianist Tom Poster. Poster will be joined by soprano Rachel Nicholls for Mozart's wonderful concert aria with solo piano part, Ch'io mi scordi di te. Full details from the City of London Choir website.
The second concert in the series will be on 12 April 2016 with Haydn's Missa in tempore belli (Paukenmesse) and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 with pianist Leon McCawley.
Haydn's masses date from his six final years, each was written for the Esterhazy family to mark the name day of the Prince's wife. Missa in Augustiis is often called Nelson Mass because one of the early performances in Vienna took place in the presence of Nelson and Emma Hamilton
