It has been all change for London Mozart Players in the last year; in June 2016 the orchestra moved offices to the church of St John the Evangelist in Upper Norwood, and in July 2016 the orchestra's previous home and regular concert venue, the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, closed for a much-needed 18 month refurbishment. The orchestra, which became the first UK chamber orchestra to be managed both operationally and artistically by the players, has responded with a number of dynamic projects.
Their Summer plans kicked off recently with a pair of concerts in Croydon which included the premiere of Relationships by Fiona Brice (a collaborator with Placebo and Kanye West), and a performance of a score, conducted by Ben Palmer, to accompany Charlie Chaplin's film The Gold Rush at Croydon's only roof-top cinema. To coincide with the school holidays, on 1 June there is a pair of performances of Paul Patterson's musical version of Roald Dahl's Little Red Riding Hood at Croydon Central Library.
On Sunday 4 June, the orchestra is joined by pianist Howard Shelley for a programme of Mozart, Haydn, and Myslivecek, including Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 27 at Conway Hall, a programme which they are taking to the MozartFest in Würzburg.
Focus then returns to the orchestra's home ground, on 17 June there is a family concert at Crystal Palace museum then as part of the 2017 Crystal Palace Overground Festival on June 17 & 18, the orchestra is presenting a series of performances in their home, St John the Evangelist, West Norwood, including special performance of Haydn's Cello Concerto in C with Sheku Kanneh-Mason in a programme which also includes Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony and Mozart's Symphony No. 35 Haffner
