In 2014, Hertfordshire Chorus, conducted by David Temple, gave the premiere of James McCarthy's Codebreaker and the choir will be returning to the work at St Alban's Cathedral on 7 October 2017. McCarthy's work is based on the life of the mathematician Alan Turing, and the work combines settings of his own words alongside words by Wilfred Owen, Sara Teasdale, Edward Thomas, Robert Burns and from Oscar Wilde’s De profundis.
Codebreaker was recently given four performances in the USA and members of two of the choirs involved, Nashville in Harmony and One Voice Chorus from Charlotte, will be joining the Hertfordshire Chorus, along with soprano Zoe Brookshaw, London Orchestra da Camera, St Albans School Chamber Choir and conductor David Temple.
The companion work in the programme will be Will Todd's Keats setting, Ode to a Nightingale which the Hertfordshire Chorus premiered in 2011.
The chorus has just recorded both the works for Signum Classics and the concert mark's the CD's release.
