AURIO: a new publishing house helps musicians discover rarely performed repertoire

There is still a lot of unknown historic repertoire out there, hidden in libraries, as German pianist and composer Sebastian Bund discovered when he was doing research for original repertoire for a concert. This gave him an idea, and he has founded a new publishing house, AURIO, which offers rarely performed and little known repertoire by subscription.

There are four editions per year, each containing five or six pieces of varying difficulty and available in printed editions or by PDF, with volumes for different instruments. The music is all beautifully printed in newly created editions.

Released in April 2020, the first edition features a piano volume with music by Tchaikovsky selected by the pianist Michael Korstick, a flute volume with music by Louise Farrenc, Carl Wilhelm August Blum and Claude Debussy, selected by Kathrin Christians, winner of the Opus Klassik Young Artist Award 2018, and a clarinet volume curated by clarinettists Nicolai Pfeffer and Pablo Barragán.

August will see the publication of a further piano volume where pianist Yaara Tal has selected Fantasia by Ferdinand Kauer (1751-1813), a little-known Viennese. Also in August there will be editions for violin, for cello (including music selected by cellist Nicholas Alstaedt) and for classical guitar. Once a year, the company also plans an edition devoted to the work of contemporary composers.
