Welsh National Opera launches weekly podcast series

WNO Podcasts
Welsh National Opera (WNO) has launched a pair of weekly podcasts, intended to give an insight into a touring opera company working on an international scale, and highlighting the relevance of opera today and its power to change lives. There is one podcast in English, The O Word, and another in Welsh, Cipolwg; the English one being presented by journalist and opera enthusiast Gareth Jones, the Welsh one by comedian, journalist and life-long opera fan Lorna Prichard. The first pair of episodes was launched on 11 June, with more to come weekly.

The O Word will be featuring amongst its interviewees, Aidan Lang (general director of WNO), James Clutton (director, Opera Holland Park), composer Will Todd (talking about his new opera Migrations, which is a WNO commission), librettist Emma Jenkins (who co-wrote the libretto to Iain Bell's In Parenthesis, premiered by WNO in 2016), and WNO producer Jennifer Hill will be talking about Cradle Choir, a project which brings together primary school children and people living with dementia for a shared choral experience

The Welsh language podcasts will feature conductor Carlo Rizzi talking about Verdi, soprano Elin Pritchard, baritone John Ieuan Jones, and producer Branwen Jones talks about her involvement with some of WNO’s youth and community projects.

The podcast will be available to download from a number of podcast directories, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts, as well as from the WNO website:
