I felt that occasionally the fine singers in the chorus were not given sufficient direction which took some of the energy away from the performance. Herreweghe has always taken a bit of a back seat when conducting but he has almost relinquished his role as director so that even the wonderful opening chords failed to provide the energy the wofk needs right from the start. I was never on the edge of my seat(except that I was uncomfortable having to wait for a natural break far too long). The work didn't catch fire even if it was a fine experience.
