Its sad to read
news of the death of dramatic soprano Elizabeth Connell. I heard her in many performances but the two which stick in my mind are her Lady Macbeth and her Medee. I saw her in concert as Medee with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment . It was only a concert performance but she made a highly memorable first entry from the back of the auditorium wrathfully declaiming Medee's lines. I don't think I've quite seen a performance to match it.
