The events are in the usual categories. There is comedy of course, some contemporary dance including work from Buxton Community School, Critical Dance Collective (from Derby University) and a day of Morris Dancing all over Buxton on 21 July (oh, joy!). There is the Buxton Open Shorts 2012, a competition for all amateur film makers. There are lots of events for families, besides the For Families category, many other events are marked as being family friendly.
Music is a big category, both popular and classical and lots in between, with a variety of evens including City of Manchester Opera performing The Bartered Bride, a capella music and cake (a lovely combination!), High Peak Orchestra, Guelph Chamber Choir from Canada and Tideswell Male Voice Choir.
Other categories include Spoken Word, Street Theatre and Theatre, including work by Alan Bennett, Carol Ann Duffy, Oscar Wilde's Salome and an all female Romeo and Juliet.
One advantage of the Fringe Festival is that you get to explore a wide variety of venues all around Buxton, there is even a performance of Midsummer Nights Dream in Poole's Cavern,
