Music by one of Poland's foremost 20th century composers will be part of the Northern Chamber Orchestra's latest programme. The Concerto for Strings by Grażyna Bacewicz features as part  of the orchestras concert at the Stoller Hall, Manchester (15/3/2019) and the Heritage Centre, Macclesfiel (16/3/2019), in a programme which also includes Schumann's Piano Concerto with soloist Martin Roscoe, Gounod's Petite symphony and Mozart's Haffner Symphony.

Grażyna Bacewicz studied both violin and composition, first in her native Poland and then in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and Carl Flesch. After returning to Poland she combined a career performing and composing, eventually becoming professor of music at the State Conservatoire of Music in Łódź. Her Concerto for Strings was written in 1949 and has become one of Bacewicz's most performed works.
