Beyond Borders
is a new initiative created by conductor Rebecca Miller in association with Ikon Arts Management. It is a digital intiative, offering on-line discussion platforms and conducting masterclasses, using the topic of conducting as a stimulus for conversations about leadership, collaboration, and humanity. Rebecca Miller describes Beyond Borders as curating 'digital sessions about leadership, community, and orchestras - through a conductor’s lens', and the sessions are aimed at everyone whether musician or a businessperson, a teacher, a nurse, a builder, or a parent.

From 22-28 February 2021, Beyond Borders will be running its second group of sessions; under the title, Shining a light the sessions will be centred around conducting, orchestras, and leadership, but with a focus on diversity. There are six sessions aimed at the general public, plus further masterclasses for conductors, and the guests will include violinist Maxine Kwok, composer Roxanna Panufnik, violinist Shari Mason, viola and viola d'amore player Clifton Harrison, the academic Genevieve Arkle, Cantor Jaclyn Chernett (the first woman in the UK to be ordained as a Jewish cantor) and violinist Tai Murray.

There will be sessions on such topics as Gender and racial diversity in classical music, A Woman in a Man's World, as well as the psychology of the orchestra, and three orchestral musicians discussing things from their perspective on the shop floor.
