Temple Song's attractive Spring/Summer season

Middle Temple Hall
Temple Song 2013: Julius Drake and Friends launches on 21 February with a recital Birgid Steinberger, Robert Höll accompanied by Julius Drake. Temple Song2013's Spring/Summer season consists of four diverse and delectable recitals in total, all in Middle Temple Hall with Birgid Steinberger, Robert Höll, James Gilchrist, Veronique Gens and Joseph Calleja, all accompanied by pianist Julius Drake, the series's artistic director. With recitals by Sarah Connolly and Roderick Williams to look forward to in the autumn.

Middle Temple Hall was begun in 1562 and is notable for the glorious double hammer-beam roof and for the fact that Twelfth Night was given its premiere in the hall at Candlemass in 1602. Since 2006 it has also been the venue for Temple Song, an opportunity to hear song recitals not only in an historic venue, but in a small to medium-scale building with fine acoustics.

The opening recital, by Birgid Steinberger and Robert Höll is a programme of Schubert and Schumann including the cycle Myrthen which Robert Schumann presented to Clara on their wedding day. James Gilchrist's recital celebrates Britten's centenary with a selection of his sacred and secular works including arrangements of Purcell and Schubert.

Veronique Gens will be singing French song with music by Poulenc, Gounod and Debussy and the melodies of Henri Duparc. The final recital of the summer will present the opportunity to hear the glorious voice of Joseph Calleja in a smaller venue.
