Billed as extraordinary music in unexpected places, this year's Spitalfields Music Winter Festival runs from 4 to 15 December. This year events include Paul Agnew directing Les Arts Florissants in Monteverdi Madrigals in Christ Church, Spitalfields, tenor Allan Clayton performing Schubert's Die Winterreise with the Aurora Orchestra in Hans Zender's version of Schubert's song-cycle in Shoreditch Church, the English Concert in Charpentier and Stradella, and the Riot Ensemble in music by Serbian-Swedish composer Djuro Zivkovic and Spanish composer Helga Arias Parra.
Other performers include The Sixteen, Fretwork, B'Rock, and the Marian Consort, plus the choir of Royal Holloway in music from Scandinavia and the Baltic. All this plus dining experiences, film screenings, historic walks, singing workshops, family entertainment, early music, cutting-edge contemporary sounds, roof-raising jazz and musical treats for younger ears.
