Somewhere for the weekend: Plaster casts, piano music and Puccini: Sandro Ivo Bartoli in Pisa

Sandro ivo Bartoli, piano recitals in Pisa
The pianist Sandro Ivo Bartoli's recent Bach disc was reviewed on this blog in February this year [see my review]. If you fancy a trip to Italy, there is the chance to hear Bartoli live in a variety of repertoire as he is in the middle of a three-concert series at the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica, Palazzo San Paolo all'Orto, Pizza, which is the University of Pisa's collection of plaster casts.

The second concert of the series, on 6 April, Viaggio in Italia, features Respighi's Frescobaldi transcription Passacaglia, music by Clementi and Liszt, including Liszt's Due Leggende di San Francesco and Cantico di San Francesco. Then on 20 April there is Il pianista all'opera with transcriptions of Verdi by Liszt and Fumagalli, Donizetti by Leschetizky (for left hand only) and Tchaikovsky by Pabst, taking in Jerusalem, La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor and Eugene Onegin plus Puccini's complete works for piano.

Further details from Sandro Ivo Bartoli's website.
