Herne Hill Festival

Herne Hill junction
Your chance to see this blogger and composer as performer as my ensemble, the FifteenB Consort, are performing at this year's Herne Hill Festival. The festival takes place in and around Herne Hill in South London from the 11 to 20 October 2012. There is an eclectic programme with jazz and cabaret, skiffle, the flute choir Opal Flutes celebrating Black History month, Verity and Giles Thirkettle in music for piano and violin, Medieval minstrels, London Consort of Winds, an oboe and cello duo and Vivace Brass, these latter two at the Half Moon Pub. There is even a Composition Competition.

Pupils from the Lambeth Music Centre and players from the Dulwich Symphony Orchestra will be coming together for a brand new piece written by John Holland. The saxophone quartet szygy will include the finalists in the festival's Composition Competition in their programme.

Our own programme, The Rock and the Key - a study in musical contrasts takes place on Saturday 13 October at St. Faith's Church on Red Post Hill. Our 7-voice vocal ensemble will be performing Palestrina's glorious 6-part Missa tu es Petrus with the Propers for the Feast of St. Calixtus which takes place on Sunday 14 October. The music ranges from 1-part to 7-part, with plainchant and motets by Hugill, Bruckner, Josquin, Stanford and Stravinsky (Ave Maria, Pater Noster and Credo) plus music for unaccompanied clarinet (including the Stravinsky Three Pieces).
