Composer George Lloyd's centenary (yes he was born in 1913 too) seems to have got rather less coverage than that of this year's other centenarians, despite Lloyd's Requiem being given at the Proms. Lloyd wrote twelve symphonies, but the only professional performance in the UK this year of one of them takes place on Sunday 10 November in Worthing.
The Worthing Symphony Orchestra, conductor John Gibbons is performing Lloyd's Symphony No. 6 as part of a programme which includes Shostkovich's Symphony No. 5 and Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs with soprano Anna Gorbachyova. In his article on MusicWeb International, Paul Conway describes Lloyd's Symphony No. 6 as 'easily the best of Lloyd s small-scale orchestral works' and 'the perfect introduction to George Lloyd s individual sound-world,'
