The weather this summer being what it is, we have to hope for good weather on 19 July 2016, because the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is giving a free outdoor concert in Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf as part of the Summer Concert series of open air performances in the park (at least the audience is outdoors, the musicians are under cover). As the concert is free and space limited, get there early if you want to hear the orchestra; the concert starts at 7.30pm
The orchestra will be conducted by Matthew Coorey (former conductor in residence with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra), and the programme includes Rossini's overture to The Barber of Seville, Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Further information from the LPO website.
Other events in the concert series include an Opera Al Fresco evening on 2 August 2016, when Nicky Spence, Timothy Connor, Mary Bevan (fresh from their exertions in SongCycle 2016 when they sing and cycle from Glasgow to London) and Madeleine Shaw perform arias and overtures from operas including Carmen, The Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, The Marriage Of Figaro, Tosca, Pearl Fishers, La Boheme, La Traviata and more. Full information from the Canary Wharf website.
