The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra's Oxford Piano Festival, artistic director Marios Papadopoulos, has become something of an institution. The festival presents major piano talent in some of Oxford's most atmospheric venues, and this year there is a chance to hear Menahem Pressler (veteran pianist from the Beaux Arts Trio) performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, Alexandre Tharaud in Bach's Goldberg Variations, Nikolai Lugansky making his festival debut in Franck, Schubert, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, Marc-André Hamelin in Haydn, Feinberg, Beethoven and Schumann, and a duo recital from Julia Hsu and Peter Serkin, as well as a recital from the participants in the festival masterclasses.
There are a total of eight recitals from 30 July to 6 August 2016 with venues including the Sheldonian Theatre, Merton College Chapel, the Holywell Music Room and the University Church. There is also a sequence of masterclasses in the Jacqueline Du Pré Music Building, with artists such as Dame Fanny Waterman, Peter Donohoe, Paul Badura-Skoda, Ferenc Rados, and Menahem Pressler. Paul Badura-Skoda will lecture on Interpreting Mozart on the Keyboard, and will be joined by Dame Fanny Waterman for Piano Teaching and Performing.
