Reconstructing Bach

JS Bach
JS Bach
Bach was a great re-cycler of material and during his Leipzig period he cheerfully re-used material from his earlier career. In fact his whole career seems to have been one of creative synthesis, re-using and re-working seem to have been an essential part of his creative process.

For its next concert the Academy of Ancient Music, directed by Robert Howarth, explores Bach Reconstructed, performing the programme at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge (5 April 2017) and Milton Court Concert Hall (7 April 2017). Howarth and the Academy of Ancient Music will be joined by soloists Mary Bevan (soprano), Reginald Mobley (countertenor), Samuel Boden (tenor), Matthew Brook (bass) for a programme which looks at the connections between Bach's works. There will be a chance to hear the Orchestral Suite no. 3 in its original version for strings and continuo, and the Mass no. 3 in G minor which re-cycles movements from the cantatas.
