Matinées are quite common in the theatre, but less so in the concert hall. Tomorrow, 4 April 2017, Cadogan Hall is presenting an all-Mozart matinee when Alan Tongue and the Beecham Orchestra are joined by pianist Iain Farrington for Mozart's Divertimento in F K 138, Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major K 415 and Symphony No. 41 in C major K 551' Jupiter'.
The Beecham Orchestra is a relatively new orchestra founded by conductor Alan Tongue and violinist Richard Friedman. Tongue is perhaps best known in the UK for his rediscovery of RVW's early mass (now known as A Cambridge Mass). Violinist Richard Friedman is leader of the orchestra of Birmingham Royal Ballet, and his father Leonard (whom I remember leading the Scottish Baroque Ensemble in the 1970s) once led Sir Thomas Beecham's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
