On Thursday 5 October, pianist Julian Jacobson opens a new live events series in the rather unlikely confines of London Bridge Station. Between 7.30am and 9.30am and between 5.00pm and 7.00pm Julian will be performing live on a Yamaha grand piano in the new railway station concourse, the performances will be unamplified and we are assured that the acoustics of the building are superb. The event is the first of a series of events in the station which will include George Orwell readings, exhibitions, poetry, photography workshops, architecture talks, and other live performances throughout the autumn. The series is produced in association with Beyond Platform 7.
Of course, as anyone who reads the news will realise, 5 October is the day when there are a number of strikes affecting the transport network, so Julian's audience may not reach the 140,000 commuters who usually pass through the station each day.
This event is also a prelude to Julian’s major concert series at St John’s Smith Square, Masterpieces of Beethoven, Schubert, Prokofiev and Gershwin, to mark his 70th Birthday, beginning on 22 October.
