Snape Maltings has a programme of residencies that take place in its creative campus throughout the year, and on 7 & 8 September 2018 Snape is presenting a Festival of the New to showcase nine fascinating projects all devised as a result of residencies at Snape. Some of the work is finished but most is still in development, so audience interaction and feedback is an integral part of the weekend.
Projects range from Bastard Assignments’ radical performance art, installation and improvisation to China Moses and Alex Wilson’s R&B and jazz collaboration and singer Naala’s explorations of synaesthesia in collaboration with lighting and sound designers, a chocolatier and a parfumier.
Singer Rebecca Hardwick’s presents a staged pairing of Kurtág's Kafka Fragments (1986) with Junk Lectures (2016) by Oliver Brignall, both for voice and violin. The weekend opens with Perhaps Contraption, described as 'twisted brass from the bewilderingly eclectic band' performed in derelict industrial buildings, and the events conclude with singer/songwriter and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson.
