In 2015 the Scottish Ensemble collaborated with Andersson Dance and the Swedish choreographer Örjan Andersson to produce Goldberg Variations - ternary patterns for insomnia based on Bach's Goldberg Variations. Now the two are collaborating again on a new work, Prelude - skydiving from a dream which uses Beethoven's Grosse Fuge, plus extracts from Bach's The Art of Fugue and Lutoslawki's Preludes and Fugues for 13 solo strings. An intriguing innovation of the new work will be the way Andersson's choreography treats the dancers and the musicians as equals, blurring their roles and breaking the rules and expectations that can often apply to classical music performance.
The production premieres at the Tramway in Glasgow (9 & 10 November), then tours to Dundee (13 November), Inverness (15 November), and it will receive its Swedish premiere in March 2019, on a 6-date tour across Sweden including two performances at Stockholm’s Dansens Hus.
