It has been a busy year on Planet Hugill and between us (myself, Tony, Ruth and Anthony) we have produced over 750 posts this year starting with my review of Arcangelo's New Year's Eve 2017 concert at the Wigmore Hall and ending with my interview with Gavin Sutherland, music director of English National Ballet.
Our top performing posts included my review Daniel Kramer's production of Britten's War Requiem at English National Opera, Ruth's review of Opera Rara's performance of Puccini's Le Willis, Anthony's review of the concert on Alma Mahler at the London Song Festival, my review of Iestyn Davies and the Aurora Orchestra in Nico Muhly at King's Place, the SWAP'ra gala at Opera Holland Park, the Royal Opera's revival of Elijah Moshinsky's classic production of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra's performance of Ethel Smyth's Mass at the Barbican, and the world premiere of Cheryl Frances-Hoad's Last Man Standing at the Barbican.
Reviews have covered events in London and the South-East, but also Cardiff, Paris, Germany (Dresden, Munich, Berlin, Bayreuth, Heidenheim, Leipzig, Cologne), Austria (Erl, Eistenstadt) and Belgium (Antwerp).
If you have missed out on anything over the year then our archive lists Performances we've heard, CDs we've listened to and People we've interviewed are now up to date and well worth a browse.
In July we were named on of FeedSpot's Top 10 UK Classical Music blogs and we are also in their Top 50 Classical blogs and Top 25 Opera blogs and websites.
According to Google Analytics we had over 120,000 readers during 2019, the majority in the UK and the USA but many all over the world, many thanks to everyone who reads the blog.
Don't forget that you can also sign up for my mailing list with gives you the monthly This month on Planet Hugill newsletter direct into your inbox.
