Soundscapes
Soundscapes, which premieres in Skipton on 14 March 2024, an immersive audio-visual installation that invites audiences on a sensory journey through the Yorkshire Dales. Created media artist Michaela French and composer Ben Crick, Soundscapes features videography of the Yorkshire Dales, projected inside a purpose-built hemispherical dome, alongside a new score by composer Ben Crick played by Skipton Camerata, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
The idea evolved from a project Ben Crick initiated combining his music with footage of the Yorkshire Dales in virtual reality headsets, which received hugely positive responses. The story behind the music-and-nature installation, the design and construction of the dome, and the health and wellbeing reasons that motivated the project will be told in the enclosing exhibition at Skipton Town Hall.
Founded in 2004 by its artistic director, Ben Crick, Skipton Camerata is North Yorkshire’s only professional orchestra. It is orchestra-in-residence at Skipton Town Hall, and has been supported by Skipton Building Society since 2006. Future concerts include Bach and Handel with Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, conducted by Joseph Judge at St Edmund's Church, Roundhay, Leeds on 16 March 2024, and Bach's Mass in B minor with the Leodis Consort, conductor Ben Crick, at Skipton Town Hall on 29 March 2024.
Soundscapes is at Skipton Town Hall from 14 March – 1 June 2024. Entry to the gallery is free.
