The Scottish Ensemble are making two visits to the Wigmore Hall this season. Tomorrow, 30 October, they are bringing a programme themed around Benjamin Britten. The ensemble will play his Three Divertimentos which use material that he wrote at the Royal College of Music. The programme also includes music by composers Britten revered, Mozart and Schumann, plus Bach's Violin Concerto in E major. In case you are wondering about string music by Schumann, the ensemble are playing artistic director's arrangement of Schumann's String Quartet No. 3 in A.
Then on February 21 they return with a varied programme of string music, starting with Geminiani's Concerto Grosso 'La Follia and including music by Gorecki, RVW, Holst, Vivaldi and Britten. Two of Gorecki's works are featured, his Harpsichord Concerto and his Three Piece in Old Style. And more rarely heard music features in RVW's Concerto Accademico. The evening concludes with Britten's Simple Symphony.
