The Institut Francais' celebration of all things piano opens this weekend, 18-20 March 2016,  with an eclectic mix of piano based events from classical to jazz to family events. Joanna MacGregor is giving a recital celebration Eric Satie's 150th anniversary, whilst Alexei Lubimov and Slava Poprugin will also be playing Satie (including Socrate), along with John Cage and Stravinsky on two pianos (and they are launching a CD as well). There is more piano teamwork from French duo David Kadouch and Adam Laloum in Schubert, Ravel and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Anna Tsybuleva, who was first prize winner in the 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition, will be playing CPE Bach, Schubert, Reger and Shostakovich's 24 Preludes.

Jean Rondeau will be mixing piano and harpsichord with music by Scarlatti, Rameau and Bach, plus his own improvisations. Jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock will be finishing the Saturday evening with a jazz recital. Other delights include Poulenc’s Histoire de Babar, a musical collaboration between students from the Royal Academy of Music and the Paris Conservatoire, and an evocation of 19th-century Paris in Madame Viardot’s Salon. There are drawing classes and workshops for children, a come and play recital for amateur pianists, a toddlers session and Laurel and Hardy with piano accompaniment.
