Poetic Inspirations: Heath Quartet and my pre-concert talk at Conway Hall

The Heath Quartet
The Heath Quartet
On Sunday 8 January 2017, the Heath Quartet will be performing a programme of quartets by Beethoven, Bartok and Dvorak at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, and I will be giving the pre-concert talk. Under the title Poetic Inspirations, I will be looking at the way the composers were inspired by earlier composers and by emotional events in their own lives.

The Heath Quartet (Oliver Heath, Sara Wolstenholme, Gary Pomeroy, Chris Murray) was formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music and in May 2013 they became the first ensemble in 15 years to win the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artists Award, and in 2012 won Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The quartet's recent recordings include Michael Tippett's complete quartets on Wigmore Hall Live (see my review).

At the Conway Hall they will be performing Beethoven's Quartet in D Op.18 No.3, Bartók's Quartet No.1 in A minor Sz.40, and Dvořák's Quartet in G Op.106.

Full information from the Conway Hall website, the concert starts at 6.30pm and my lecture is at 5.30pm.
