Opera North Britten season

Opera North - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Dates have been announced for Opera North's Britten season this autumn when their new production of Death in Venice will be joined by revivals of Peter Grimes and Midsummer Nights Dream. Death in Venice, which is being performed by Opera North for the first time, will be seen in Yoshi Oida's production originally done at Aldeburgh. Alan Oke will sing Aschenbach with Peter Savidge in the baritone roles. Richard Farnes conducts. The opera opens at the Grand Theatre, Leeds on 17 October and then travels to Nottingham, Salford Quays, Newcastle and Snape Maltings.

Phyllida Lloyd's production of Peter Grimes returns to the Grand Theatre, Leeds on 14 September with Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts in the title role, Giselle Allen as Ellen Orford and Robert Hayward as Captain Balstrode, conducted by Jac van Steen. Peter Grimes runs in repertory Leeds until 26 October then travels to Nottingham, Salford Quays and Newcastle.

Martin Duncan's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream is in Leeds from 28 September with James Laing and Christopher Ainslie sharing the role of Oberon, Jeni Bern as Tytania, Sky Ingram as Helena,  Kathryn Rudge as Hermia, Alexander Sprague as Lysander and Quirijn de Lang as Demetrius. Henry Waddington and Darren Jeffery share the role of Bottom. Stuart Stratford conducts. A Midsummer Night's Dream runs in repertory Leeds until 24 October and then travels to Nottingham, Salford Quays and Newcastle.

If you want to see all three in Leeds then Opera North are performing all three operas back to back on 16-18 October and 24-26 October. Though its probably worth investigating the weeks in Salford (5 - 9 November), Newcastle (12-16 November) and Nottingham (19-23 November) when all three operas are performed in each place.
