Mahogany Opera Group's latest show, Folie a Deux, mixes Emily Hall's songs, words by Iceland writer and long-time Bjork collaborator Sjon with Swedish voice artist Sofia Jernberg and Icelandic tenor Finnur Bjarnason to create a show which explores how insanity, electricity and love collide in shared psychosis, 'folie a deux'. Directed by Frederic Wake Walker, the production is full of innovative techniques and technology. The score is written for two singers, harp and electromagnetic harp to create a sound-scape which mixes classical, jazz, pop and folk. The lighting uses technology designed by Dan Large which responds to the music and movement of the performers.
Folie a Deux is premiered in Bergen on 11 and 12 March 2015 as part of the Borealis Festival in partnership with Bergen Opera. The production then travels to Sweden (Stockholm's Kulturhuset on 14 March), Winchester (28 March), Aldeburgh (29 March) and will be performed in London on 6 and 7 June 2015 at the Spitalfields Summer Festival.
