A new magazine Sounds Like Now will capture the vibrant culture of contemporary classical music in the UK and Ireland. The magazine will be bi-monthly and available in print and digital, and is being created by Dan Goren and Steph Power. Dan is creator and director of Composers Edition, Assistant Director of the Institute of Composing; perhaps you’ve seen him co-running Club Inégales, known him as a free-improvising flugelhornist. Steph has a background in new music performance and is a composer, an editor and a writer for publications including the Independent, Tempo and Wales Arts Review.
It is planned to launch the magazine in November, with the December/January issue and they are currently crowd-funding. Crowd-funding will give them a group of backers and subscribers up front, which helps to persuade advertisers, and of course the money from the crowd-funding becomes valuable start-up capital.
We are promised a hub where performers, composers and lovers of contemporary classical music will be able to explore and celebrate new music, with performer & composer profiles, essays, interviews, guides to key trends, repertoire reports, recording reviews and new music releases.
You can find out more from the Sounds Like Now website, or go straight to their crowd-funding page.
