Next week, the Institut Francais' literature festival Beyond Words goes on-line (from 11 to 24 May 2020). Amongst the events, is a performance from pianist and composer Karol Beffa amongst whose specialities is improvisation on themes provided by members of the public such as when Bach meets Scarlatti [see Beffa's improvisation on YouTube].

The festival has launched an open call to collect suggested themes for Beffa's improvisation at the festival. They want people to sent two nature-related subjects to musique@institut-francais.org before 10 May 2020, and Beffa will improvise on selected themes at his recital at the festival on 14 May 2020.

Beffa  was a child actor from the age of 7 to 12, working with Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, and playing the young Mozart in a TV film directed by Marcel Bluwal. He studies included doing a master degree in Philosophy at Cambridge, as well as studying at CNSM in Paris. His compositions include a violin concerto for Renaud Capucon, and a piano concerto for Boris Berezovski. He has also written around 20 film scores (including Mehdi Ben Atta's 2017 film L'amour des hommes), and three opera-ballets. The France Musique website has a good 30 minute programme from 2019 where Beffa talks about himself [in French] and his music alongside performances of three of his pieces:
