Halle St Peter's opened in 2013, providing rehearsal and recording space for the Halle as was as space for education and community projects. Manchester International Festival's production of Macbeth took place there, and now members of the Northern Chamber Orchestra (NCO) are giving the first public chamber music concert in Halle St Peter's. This is the first time that the venue has been so used, and also the first time the NCO and the Halle have worked together to present a concert.
Halle St Peter's in Blossom St., Ancoats, is a Grade 2 listed
building and a de-consecrated church, originally built in 1859. It was
the first Anglican Church to be built in this predominantly Roman
Catholic community and was one of the initial phases of church building
undertaken by Bishop Prince Lee, Manchester's first Anglican Bishop,
following the creation of the Manchester Diocese.
The performance is being dedicated to the memory of the violinist Peter Mountain, former leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a great supporter of both the NCO and the Halle. Peter Mountain's daughter, Jeannette Lander, who is principal cellist with the NCO will be playing in the concert. The programme includes Haydn's Echo Trio (in which Haydn plays surprise tricks on his musicians), Brahms' Sextet in b flat, Op.18 and Mendelssohn's Octet. Further information from the NCO website.
