Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance's annual Gold Medal competition is being held on Monday 11 January 2016 at Kings Place and provides a chance to see a showcase of their best performers. The competition brings together six outstanding young artists showcasing the diverse musical talent from the wind, brass and percussion, strings, voice, piano, jazz and composition departments. Each performer is chosen by their head of department from 2015 graduates and current students. This year’s competitors are alumni Becky Brass (percussion), Ruben Fox (jazz saxophone), Emma Lewis (mezzo-soprano), Stefan Melovski (guitar), Naufal Mukumi (piano) and student Harry Palmer (composition).
The diverse programme will includes music by Harry Palmer, Manuel Marie Ponce, Dusan Bogdanovic, Mozart, Messiaen, Wagner, Scriabin, Balakirev, Gary Burton/Makoto Ozone and Riad Al Sunbati.
2014 winner Elliot Galvin (jazz pianist) was crowned European Young Jazz Musician of The Year, while last year’s winner Nardus Williams (soprano) is already forging a successful career as a Samling Scholar and Park Lane Group Young Artist.
