The Little Venice Music Festival opens tomorrow (7 October) and runs all weekend, a celebration of chamber music and song with the Berkeley Ensemble and friends, including the premieres of works by Michael Berkeley, Toby Young and Peter Maxwell Davies. The festival opens in fine style with the Berkeley Ensemble performing Beethoven's Septet, Howard Ferguson's Octet and a new work by Toby Young, preceded by a pre-concert talk from Petroc Trelawney. The ensemble is joined by pianist Christopher Glynn and cellist Adrian Brendel for the closing concert which mixes music from Vienna with the premiere of Michael Berkeley's At a solemn wake, which is dedicated to the memory of his late wife. And in the best tradition, the closing concert is followed by a party!

Other events include Ensemble Perpetuo performing in counterpoint to an exhibition from the London Photo Festival, mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley, baritone Nicholas Merryweather and pianist Libby Burgess in songs and duos by Brahms, Schumann, Poulenc and Britten, a family concert and violinist Fennella Humphreys in a late night concert including the premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies Sonata for violin alone, one of his last works.

Most of the concerts take place at St Saviour's Church, Warwick Avenue, Little Venice, London W9 2PT
