London Sinfonietta opens its 2016/17 London season with the UK premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino's Immagina il deserto at St John's Smith Square on 13 October 2016. Marco Angius conducts the orchestra in a programme which pairs the Sciarrino with works by two Italian composers who have been influenced by him, Daniela Terranova and Francesco Filidei, and they will be joined by mezzo-soprano Anna Radziejewska for Luciano Berio's iconic Folksong suite.

Salvatore Sciarrino's Immagina il deserto was commissioned by the Venice Biennale to celebrate its 60th anniversary year, and the London Sinfonietta gave the work's premiere in Venice on 8 October 2016 when the composer was presented with the Golden Lion.

The concert at St John's Smith Square will be followed by a discussion with the composer. Full information from the London Sinfonietta website.
