Rachmaninov's All Night Vigil (Vespers) was premiered in 1915 in Moscow, performed by the Moscow Synodal Choir. It represents one of the last major pieces of sacred music written in Russia before the Revolution put paid to this style of music

To celebrate the centenary, Stephen Layton and the Holst Singers gave a performance of Rachminov's All Night Vigil in St Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, London in November 2015. The choir is repeating their performance on 20 February 2016 in the chapel of Merton College, Oxford. The chapel is a fine, largely 13th century building, it is large for a college chapel because until 1891 it was the local parish church as well.

Tickets are available from Tickets Oxford.
