In this lovely video, harpsichordist Julian Perkins performs Frescobaldi's 'Toccata Decima' from Toccate e Partite, Libro Primo (Rome, 1615) on a 1622 harpsichord in the Cobbe Collection at Hatchlands Park. The harpsichord is attributed to the Italian maker Girolamo Zenti, it has two 8-foot registers with a four-octave compass from C/E (short octave) to c3. Despite its modest size, it has a strikingly resonant quality that is ideally suited to the lyrical qualities of Frescobaldi’s music.
