2024 sees the Northern Aldborough Festival marking its 30th year presenting music in the picturesque village of Aldborough near York. This year the festival runs from 13 June to 22 June 2024. The festival opens with a focus on young artists as 25-year-old Tom Fetherstonehaugh conducts Fantasia Orchestra, (made up of the UK’s most exciting young musicians), alongside pianist Alim Beisembayev, who at 23 won the last Leeds Piano Competition, performing Tchaikovsky and Chopin.
Other highlights include the Armonico Consort bringing its semi-staged production of Purcell's The Fairy Queen, the Julian Joseph Trio, violinist Viktoria Mullova with pianist Alasdair Beatson, and of course the festival's New Voices Singing Competition. Young artists performing include guitarist Jack Hancher, pianist Adriana Babin, saxophonist/accordionist Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo and winner of the festival 2023 New Voices Singing Competition mezzo-soprano Lea Shaw with pianist Kristina Yorgova.
Aldborough’s late-night venue ‘The Shed’ also returns for concert goers who want to continue festivities in a relaxed environment with a variety of live entertainment and refreshments.
