Classical guitarist Simon Thacker is known for his cultural collaborations via his trio (see my review of his CD Rakasha ) Simon Thacker's Svara-Kanti. The group is performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 15 to 23 August 2015 at Summerhall, as part of the Made in Scotland showcase (representing the best of Scottish arts and artists across all art forms). You can also catch them on the BBC Asian Network 14 August at 12:30 and In Tune on BBC Radio 3 on 21 August at 16:30.
In this incarnation the group features Simon Thacker on classical guitar (and as composer) with Raju das Baul and Sarvar Sabri. Raju das Baul is a singer/instrumentalist from the mystical Baul Bengali folk tradition, and he comes from Santiniketan, Baul heartland and the seat Rabindranath Tagore's famous university. Sarvar Sabri is a Birmingham based tabla master. So look forward to startling virtuosity in a variety of cross-cultural collaborations.
See Simon Thackers' website for further details and there is a clip of the group's performance in Indian in November 2014 on YouTube. You can buy tickets from the Edinburgh Fringe website.
