The Salutation hotel in Sandwich, Kent is playing host to a new opera festival which offers the prospect of opera, cabaret, fine gardens and lovely food. The inaugural Pelagian Opera Festival, which takes its theme as As If By Magic, runs from 28 June to 7 July, and there will be afternoon performances of an abridged version of Mozart's The Magic Flute, billed as Die kleine Zauberflöte, as well as opera cabaret in the evenings.
Performed to piano accompaniment, Die kleine Zauberflöte will be directed by Catrin Wyn Davies with young singers from The Royal Conservatoire Den Haag. In the evenings there will be the chance to dine on the terrace and be serenaded by an eclectic mix of opera favourites and less well-known Baroque and Classical arias to a piano accompaniment.
