Marin Alsop conducts the Sao Paolo Symphony Orchestra and they are joined by the Swingle Singers for a performance of Berio's Sinfonia plus music by Bernstein and Camargo Guarnieri. Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra perform two programmes including Mahler's Third Symphony, Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and music by John Adams and Charles Ives.
Sir Antonio Pappano, the chorus and orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia perform Luigi Dallapiccola's one-act opera Il Prigionero with tenor Stuart Skelton paired with music by Beethoven and a performance of Verdi's Requiem with soloists including Hibla Gerzmava, Ekaterina Semenchuk and Joseph Calleja. The Teresa Carreno Youth Orchestra of Venezuala returns conducted by Christian Vasquez, performing Berlioz, Stravinsky, Rimsky Korsakov, Richard Strauss, de Falla, and Tchaikovsky.
