Garsington Opera from across the lake at Wormsley |
Their 2015 season at Garsington Opera at Wormsley is now over (see my reviews of Cosi fan tutte and Death in Venice), and the details of 2016 already released show that there are a few tempting items to look forward to next year. Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri will be directed by choreographer and dancer William Tuckett, with David Parry conducting. Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin will be directed by Garsington Opera's artistic director Douglas Boyd, and will be directed by Michael Boyd, who made his operatic debut earlier this year with the Royal Opera House's production of Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Roundhouse (see my review). The third opera is Mozart's Idomeneo conducted by Tobias Ringborg, directed by Tim Albery.
In addition, there will be a collaboration with the
Rambert dance company. Douglas Boyd will conduct the Garsington forces in Haydn's
Creation, which will be danced by members of Rambert with choreography by Mark Baldwin, artistic director of Rambert, and designs by Pablo Bronstein. The first time a dance company has appeared at Garsington.
