Classical guitar freebie - Teasero from Pablo Vasquez

Pablo Vasquez sounds like the name of a Spanish pop-star, in fact it is a guitar duo from New Zealand, Jolyon Mulholland and Elroy Finn. The duo's debut single Teasero has just been released as a free download on the Cae Gwyn Records (Recordiau Cae Gwyn) label. The reason why I am mentioning on this blog is because the two play nylon-string classical guitars, and the sound world of Teasero is worlds away from either folk, contemporary electro-pop or RnB. The piece is rather gentle, relaxed listening, and the sound texture of the two guitars is simply lovely.

Teasero, which is available for free download, is from a complete album which Pablo Vasquez has recorded. Jolyon Mulholland and Elroy Finn started collaborating in 2011 when both lived in Brooklyn, they worked with a variety of artists but discovered their own shared interest in the nylon-string guitar. The songs came out of that, then Jolyon Mulholland moved back to New Zealand in 2013. The pieces were unrecorded and in danger of being forgotten. In early 2015, Elroy Finn was in New Zealand for the summer, so the pair took the opportunity to relearn the pieces and finalise an album. It was recorded live to tape over two nights in the stairwell of Roundhead Studios in Auckland, March 2015. The aim was to create an instrumental album that is best enjoyed over dinner.
