Following on from the successful concert series of African classical music last year, The African Concert Series at the October Gallery and The Africa Centre, pianist Rebeca Omordia has curated an on-line follow up with a series of live events streamed from all over the world, featuring performances by well-known and established artists from Nigeria, the UK, Morocco and America performing classical music from Africa.
The series will begin on 22 June 2020 with a concert of music for flute and piano, performed by Nigerian/Ghanaian composer and pianist Fred Onovwerosuoke and his wife flautist Wendy Hymes direct from St Louis, USA. This will be followed by concerts from Nigerian tenor Jo Oparamanuike, accompanied by Babatunde Sosan (the third in his family to be organist at Christ Church, Lagos), streamed from Nigeria, South African bass player Leon Bosch, pianist Glen Inanga in Nigerian piano music streaming from the Cayman Islands, Moroccan pianist Marouan Benabdallah playing piano music from the Arab world streaming from Hungary; and finally from London, Rebeca Omordia concluding the series, playing Nigerian music from her CD EKELE [see my interview with Rebeca]
Full details from The African Concert Series website. The music will be streamed live or pre-recorded especially for this programme and it will be broadcast live on The African Concert Series Facebook page on the scheduled dates at 6pm UK time.
