Divas & Scholars Autumn programme starts this month with a combination of evening lecture-recitals and Opera Study Days. They combine expert lectures and live performances by fabulous opera singers. This term lecturers include me, talking on Verismo and Italian opera after Puccini, and mezzo-soprano Rosalind Plowright will be giving a masterclass and talking about her roles. The lectures cover a range of operas, there are evening lecture recitals on Verdi's Otello and Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur plus a study day on Puccini and Verismo. The study days include lunch and the evenings are preceded by a champagne reception. The events offer support to up-and-coming opera singers by way of paid performance opportunities and public master classes, and there are attractively priced tickets for students.
