The Choir of the King's Consort, conductor Robert King are giving a concert at the Wigmore Hall on 8 October 2014 exploring a repertoire which might surprise some. Whilst King and his group have explored period music widely, including producing complete Monteverdi and Purcell series, King has also shown himself interested in newer repertoire including recording Parry and Stanford. For this latest concert the repertoire is very much late 19th, early 20th century in a programme entitled Masterpieces of the English Romantics.

Anyone who is a choral singer will recognise (and love) the pieces, they are all staples which tend to be popular with singers - Harris's lovely double choir piece Faire is the Heaven, Naylor's large scale dramatic Vox dicentis; Clama, Stanford's Three Latin Motets (including the lovely six-part Beati quorum via) . There is also more recent repertoire Leighton's Drop, drop slow tears, Britten's Hymn to St Cecilia and much else besides. This is music which I normally sing and don't get many opportunities to hear it sung well.
